(view in 480p/ not 360p) My sketchbooks are my constant companions, providing me with solace and presenting me with challenge. The act of keeping a sketchbook may be counter-culture to the ever present forces of dehumanization in our world. Sketchbook-keeping fosters a compassionate awareness as it teaches us to to attend to the soul of the world. This particular sketchbook is several years old, but was an important one for me. It marks the first year I began to combine various media in one book, rather than having a separate sketchbook for drawing or watercolor or collage. This visual journal includes several gesture sketches with Derwent watercolor pencils and wash, as well as left over torn scraps of my discarded oil monotypes, recycled anew as collage pieces. Also, incorporated are "transfer" monotypes and a few "additive" ones done with simple water-based inks for immediacy. This sketchbook is now in the archives of the National Gallery of Art, Rare Book Collection (DC)
