She was at her heyday when I was born, in 1967, but I think she was and stil is marvelous, not just as a performer but as a person.

What is all the negative stuff about? She's terrific. Great voice, both in her belt and her use of her head voice. I don't know how she got this technique, but it's pretty fabulous. Usually a hard belter trashes her voice, initially evident in a breathy, tight head voice, then in hoarseness and a lowering of the keys of one's songs to accomodate a loss of range. Her voice sounds clean and well-positioned without losing its pop color. And cute, youthful, embodiment of the 60's mod girl.
