WHOOOPPPEEEEE!!! Finally, after about 4 years of not being able to run trains, the 'Marxville and Plateau' (MaP) has trains running again, albeit only on a portion of the layout. After letting the Man Cave become overrun with collectibles and debris it was looking like an audition for the TV series 'Hoarders'!!! It took several months of concerted selling to get The Cave and the layout cleared off enough to work on.

The upper portion you see in the video (the 'Plateau') hasn't had scenery work done to it, only a base coat of toffee brown to cover the Styrofoam. This portion of the layout was meant from the beginning to be 'convertible' - that is, no permanent scenery. That way I can swap themes as my whims dictate. I think the track plan as you see it will remain pretty much the same, so as to keep things simple.

Today's theme was Western, using the Marx Wm. Crooks engine and passenger cars from the 'Tales Of Wells Fargo' playset, and Marx Western playset cowboys and tin-litho buildings. There's a few wagons from a variety of sources to add interest. Also, there's a fairly nice cast of characters from my childhood like Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, Pat Brady, Lt. Rip Masters, Rusty, Rin Tin Tin, Sky King, Penny, Clipper , and The Sheriff.

Hopefully within the next couple of weeks I can clean/dust/straighten the bottom portion of the layout ('Marxville') and get some trains running on it as well.

Enjoy!

  • @grizzleybearz282004 Ya know, I completely missed this post! My apologies! Generally speaking I'm not a set collector. I mostly purchase the engines and rolling stock as separate items. I do have some sets though but unfortunately none of my boxed sets have the #333. I prefer to take the individual items and set up consists that are just fun to run. Ed
