僕の初恋をキミに捧ぐ Parody Trailer

This video was created for our final project for JPN 399: J-Pop Globalization - Japanese Popular Culture in the World, taught by Alisa Freedman at the University of Oregon.

The objective of our final project was to create a parody trailer of 「僕の初恋をキミに捧ぐ」or "I Give My First Love to You" (2009), representing the cliche themes in Japanese "dorama" and movies based on Korean dramas.

Our goal was to expand on the theme of Korean culture and its influence in Japanese popular culture and its affect on youth culture. By reseaching common themes in both Korean and Japanese dramas/movies, we portrayed how the relationship between both countries have become more cross-cultural.

Throughout time, stories of courtship have been told and even with all of the retellings, the main plot tends to stick to the cliche; in Korean dramas, a major cliche is the theme of star-crossed love (such as Romeo and Juliet).

Through our video, we are hoping to convey the cliche themes that audiences are obsessed over and their continuation to watch these reiterations of the same story. These dramas are an escape from their reality and what we want to communicate is how these themes are influencing youth culture and relationships, specifically in Japan and Japanese media society.
