Now youve mentioned it, ive just got talking to a Spainish friend of mine, he repairs all electrical appliances. So we´ve desided that rather then scrap perfectly good transformers and other good parts, i will give them to him to repair microwaves and others in exchange for other scrap and some cash if he sells the appliance at the end! So all is good, i to hate waste, but before i met this bloke i was non the wiser as what to do with the electrical goodsies i had.

Stefirth, if you dont breath the gas it is not a problem, BUT releasing fridge gas ( cfc gas ) is ilegal in many parts of the world, you know damaging the ozone layer, global warming.
when he took the transformer out there was a pink thing hanging off it, the high voltage fuse, I recently paid 10 euro for one ? 15 usd I guess, we all have microwaves so keep it as a spare

The red part on the magentron is toxic as fuck if you crush it. "A quick warning: The pink/white output antenna ceramics may contain beryllium oxide. This can be very toxic, more so than lead, so dont smash this thing to pieces. This may be the reason a few yards do not accept microwaves all together. " don't touch it and touch yourself mouth eye either.

@ruaur1 used magnetrons go for 20 + on ebay I haven't checked the other things yet.

what sucks not all of them are copper anymore most of the chinisee ones have aluminum in the transformer sucks I know I have been collecting them for the primary for a wind project and out of 6 microwaves I only have two coils that are copper and they are getting harder to find other than on ebay and they are going for a pretty penny these days.

Great vid, answers alot of questions!

The entire core of the magnetron (the cilindrical part) is made of copper. (It's just big hollow block of copper).

@variacsrule What can you use a 2000volt transformer for? I always wondered about what these microwave parts would be good for.
@ruar1 People such as myself use them for projects.
Just check out some of my videos with MOT in the title.
The cheapest in the US for a microwave oven transformer is $12.95 with the capacitors running in the $15 a piece range. (shipping not included)
I'm full up on MOTs right now, but sadly lacking in capacitors. :P

Well perhaps we can cut out the middleman here? i.e. ebay! If you tell me what to look for and what you want, then perhaps we can come to some arrangement??

I would leave the transformer, capacitor, and diode wired together and put them on ebay.

Really? Are they worth more that way, rather then scraping them? How intresting, please tell me more!
