In a small midwestern town with 3 small (Christian) universities, there are no demonstrations, except anti-abortion (at the Catholic ones). Anything else would be crushed by the administration/security, and students risk losing high tuition $ by being dismissed or disciplined. The risks in "partying" are much smaller, and so the focus stays superficial (if you're frustrated, get drunk).
