About the clouds--cloud cover in the event on a return-to-launch-site abort--cameras need to be able to see it--and the commander and pilot need to be able to see the runway--in an abort--or a normal end of mission landing for that matter--she cant do a holding pattern-no engines for landing--it has the aerodynamic characteristics of a pair of pliers-or a safe, a piano, etc

if there's too much cloud cover, it'll severly damage the heat sheilds.

I was wondering... if it's cloud cover that's the problem, in the event of a return-to-launch-site abort, what's it matter how much cloud there is? With laser ranging and infra-red, I'd have thought such things as cloud don't matter, these days.
Anyway, NASA TV coverage starts in a few mins!
