Wascana Flooding Today - Regina, Saskatchewan (Full Version) April 11, 2011

Wascana Lake in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada is now at its maximum that it can hold for water. A city worker told me that it is to increase another two feet higher in 7 to 10 days so they have decided it is time to open the flood gates. Tomorrow at 9am city crews will lift the dam and let the water flow into the already flooded creek which is now a raging river. Sandbagging has begun downstream and a digger has been brought in to break the ice.

As this event is turning into an epic full length movie, I decided to take the camera a lot further downstream. The Wascana Creek flows into a golf course then the RCMP Training Centre road and across Dewdney Avenue where I found a dangerous looking walking bridge and some people paddling canoes up the flood waters.

Seeing all this makes me happy I sold my house in Regina. It flooded constantly with spring thaw and flash rains. But I miss Saskatchewan!

@roscope12 I agree. Also, we should rename the Wascana Qu'Appelle Assiniboine River to what it REALLY is. The Saskatoban. And maybe we could build another Lake Deif so this flooding doesn't happen so often.. Manitoba and Saskatchewan should work together for once.
