@ejkoechling Pretty interesting story! I dont know if I could do it blind folded, but I use this video when I clean my Ruger 22/45. :)

Can be a manufactures defect. Turned out mine was. the oval cut inside the mainspring housing had a burr on it not allowing the hammer strut to fall into place properly. My local gunsmith took a diamond grinder to it and now I have no problem. Thanks to your video I now know my 22/45 very well. I can put it back together almost blind folded. Some people may want to have their local gunsmith take a look at theres. He said hes worked on 4 others in the past week with the same problem...

does the 22/45 go together the same. mine is just a target. i don't think there is an difference on the internals is there???

@abbeyglencircle Well, I just spent about 20 minutes trying to put this gun together a new way, but it just doesnt seem to work for me. I really think the different model Rugers are slightly different in reassembly. After putting the bolt back in, I pulled the trigger, went through the back and pushed up the hammer. It just wouldnt close. The housing pin kept coming out. But again, after following this video it went back together just right. This is very odd to me.

@abbeyglencircle Ill try it again tonight...

@RoyRStenstrom It does not matter much what model you have.
whats the difference between the 22/45 and the mark 3?

@HippoShag123 the 22/45 is in the Mark III family, but its a little different than the other Mark III's in the 1911 style grip. That's what I see on the surface, but there are probably some minor differences, replaceable grips, finish, etc. It looks to me like the grip angle on the standard Mark III is sharper than the 22/45. The 22/45 just feels great in the hand in my opinion.

Great video. The trick with the Mark II/III is understanding what's happening with the hammer and the housing spring. If you look at the retention spring when it is out of the gun you can see a small depression on the backside. This is where the pushrod on the hammer needs to go to properly seat the retention spring. If its pulling out when you close it, the pushrod is not captured and the hammer is most likely too far back. Reach in with a finger or tool and give it a little push forward.
