While LED sometimes does fall short of claims, it's important to realize the real costs associated with that light output. I use LED throughout my ENTIRE home now and have seen a VAST difference in my electric bill. Having two kids, I can assure you that I get bang for the buck. Is the light dimmer.. in SOME cases - actually brighter in others. Is it acceptable and can I live with it, absolutely. Trust me, lighting my whole home for UNDER 100 Watts is a BIG deal.
There is one point of comparison between halogen and LED that is a bit of a sticking point - and that is total lumen output. Research has shown that an LED bulb can have a similar beam angle (FWHM - full width at half maximum), similar CBCP (center beam candlepower), yet lower total lumens than a halogen lamp. This is due to the fact that many traditional lamps emit significant amounts of light backwards, which, in many cases does nothing for the application.
Dear Mr. Deller, one of the most frustrating things about LED lighting is that the claims about equivalency are hardly ever supported by visual proof.
Would you mind holding this lamp next to the incandescent it is supposed to replace, and turn them on at the same time?
Finally, is this lamp available in 12 volt DC versions suitable for autonomous solar lighting applications? Surely possible considering that the web demos (Ruud Koornstra) often exhibit a battery-powered lamp.

I use 4 of these LED bulbs in my house and think they are great replacements for 60 watt incandescents

No 6 watt led is any where near as good as a 60 watt incandescent. 25 to 30 watt at very best. I know i've done the comparisons

Is this bright enough to light a small bedroom? I am currently using a 15W CFL but I really hate the quality of light it produces.
