Like many of you out there, i like nothing better than to get home, stick the kettle on and get fruity with the spray can..
I had a bad experience with a teacher and a painting i did at school. She humiliated me in front of the class and after this i refused to do art...The teachers used me as a model instead for the other children to paint.. In fact i never drew anything till i was thirty. My mind started to wander as the music scene was becoming constipated and this coincided with a trip to Barcelona. Upon my return i started to draw (pictures!)...
One of the challenges of Art is to be frugal. In contrast to this, the local authority where i live has just splashed out a cool 25 million on a visual arts facility. Facility as in something that you can use.. With that kind of dough on your hip it promises to be something special, more than just a "Gateway to Mcdonalds"...
To be fair, Colchester has many exciting young artists and some that have been around the block a few times!
There are those that say that artists are all smackheads that haven't done a days work in their lives. This simply isn't true, most of the artists that i have been out with refrain from the habit and hardly ever use heroin.
What are the visual arts? Basically, looking at a painting whilst a tv in the background plays the Beatles "When i'm 64"..
Somebody once said i was the Reggie kray of the art world which amused me no end. Nothing could be further from the truth. Whereas music can get me steamed up to the point of having "an episode" i find that Art relaxes me. It's all sausages and buttercups.... I suppose i have some of the quaifications. Being an artist is all about taking drugs, being a baffoon and insurance claims..
It's time to do what artists always do.It's time to chase the dragon, shit yourself and run off with the sculpture!!
