The federal government cannot tell states what they have to teach, so instead they attach money to it. If you teach Abstinence Only Until marriage you get funding, if you teach Comprehensive you get zipp. This is similar to the drinking age. States that have legal consumption of alcohol at 21 or higher get funding for their interstates, any age below 21 and you have to be self-sufficient.

In my middle school they teach that abstinence is the only 100% effective contraceptive. But they also talk about what to do if you think that your ready for sex and how to deal with it. It's a abstinence based curriculum but they also teach about other options.

I go to an abstinence only school and I LEARNED NOTHING!!! They said if we had sex we would ruin our "gift" The guy said he cried at night knowing his wife was not a virgin! I had to learn from the internet and my more perverted friends. How SAD is that?! I'm trying hard to make my own decisions. Abstinence only is STUPID! People should know how strongly they connect to other people and whether they can keep the 2 seperate or if there would be bad consequences. I personally get too attached...

only brain dead pricks are against sex education for kids

It is not the responsibility of government to educate people about sex. Yes, it would be convenient, but you forget that the entire purpose of public school is to produce a populace that is easy to manipulate--that's why people don't seek out information beforehand. Everyone has to seek the knowledge for anything.

unfortunately kids are even afraid to look up information on the internet because
1) they are afraid that they'll end up on a pron site
2) they have been tought to just "not do it" so they feel bad about looking it up
i wish i knew about you guys years ago, it would have helped me so much.

omg good thing my mom told me EVERYTHING about sex. And I am going to wait until I really love them. And in school they only talk about periods, babys, and deodorant!!! They don't say anything about masturbation, touching, sex moves, orgasms, and even condoms!!! It's rediculous. They need to get a freaking clue cause they are just WAY too nerotic about sex. And it's natural so BFD!!!!

A couple months ago my boyfriend and i started becoming more intimate. We are both still in high school and were never really taught about sex. I am Catholic, so I was taught to save sex for marriage and never use a condom or any type of birth-control. Dan and Jennifer, your videos have taught me so much about sex, condoms, and everything. Schools definitely need to implement better sex ed classes to teach kids and teens about sex.

i actually think that abstinence is not a good way to prevent us from having sex...its like saying to a kid don't do it.. and after a few seconds they do it... they show talk to us about the consequences and if we have all read done it.. they should also show us how to use a condom correctly..

I think they should teach about sex and condoms and save sex and give the idea of abstanince out there, but to make it clear that it's a choice.
Absolutely! Sex education should be taught throughout school...and education doesn't stop at school it goes beyond that. You're correct...it's important in the south. I live in Charlotte and although it's somewhat conservitive in sex education it's much better than rural parts of North Carolina. The more educated you are...obviously you make better choices but you also feel more confident in yourself and what you like sexually so that's important, too. Good video. :)

I hate to say this, but, those "abstinence only" classes are so silly, they really make the republicans look bad. I wish, the Republicans didn't promote these themes. It really makes them look Just-Plane-Silly.
