For Seamus Heaney's 70th birthday, RTÉ Radio has produced a landmark 15-CD box set of the poet reading his own Collected Poems, as well as a wide range of special programmes. RTÉ Television will broadcast a new documentary on Heaney's life and work, and RTÉ Performing Groups has commissioned new music from three of Ireland's leading composers. Live radio programmes from a celebration on Monday 13th April, co-hosted by RTÉ and the Irish Museum of Modern Art with the support of the Department of Arts, Sport and Tourism, will bring Seamus Heaney himself to a national and international audience, for an occasion on which poets and their readers throughout the world will rejoice.
@cathedralmound I know what you mean.
I suppose the difficult thing to do is to concede that the universality of Heaneys work means people of a completely different class can get something out of it.

Poor old Heaney, being lauded in this manner by a bunch of RTE entities must chill his blood. That Fianna Failer Tubridy even gets a plug in for Brian Cowen, shameless shilling for the party he is devoted to. Shocking.

Field Work changed my life, but I have to admit that I don't understand the Redress of Poetry.
