My Uncle George O'Connell shared this film with me. He was stationed on the USS Salt Lake City. On the USS New Mexico, Scotty was stationed. His wife, Eleanor, was Francys' sister (Francys was married to Uncle George.). In the video you can see Pinky (aka Eleanor, Jr.) with the flower in her hair. Her mother is also in the film.

The video has Hawaiian dancers, palm trees, and a very colorful parade which includes the flags of Hawaii and USA. Also, you can see Waikiki Beach, with Diamond Head in the background. This is before Pearl Harbor was bombed.

  • My father also served on the Salt Lake City from 1933 to 1936. He passed away in 1980. It's strange now that I'm living in Salt Lake City! Great video. Thanks for sharing and recognizing the SLC. Beautiful blue seas!
