A quick video showing how I make firstly the slip for the under glazed colour for my pottery.
It's simple to do,just mix up some slip from your waste clay slops from the wheel, then sieve out the lumps and then add different amounts of colours in the form of various metals.
This one is the Cobalt Blue colour but there are many different colours like Copper which gives green colours and Iron which will give red to brown colours. You can experiment with different amounts of the metal oxides to see what results you get on your pots when you fire the kiln.

  • good info! thanks, dan.

Do you use just a regular kitchen sieve or a special one?

  • @tokyorosa Hi,just a regular kitchen sieve for the slip and a slightly finer one for the cobalt, but a fine kitchen sieve would do for that too.

    Cheers,Dan.

  • Wow! Great video Dan. Great video.

  • thank you!!!

  • nice one Dan

  • Thank you so much Dan for making this video. I have been so many places on the net, including YouTube looking for a way to make slip. I am such a visual learner, and this helped me extremely. I'm going to try and make me some of this. Thanks again!

  • Again, Dan, you simplify a process for us. None of the complicate slip receipes using ball clay, porceline, etc that the university potters give us. Thank you, Claire

  • thanks, Dan. good demo.
