@alewisuk There shouldn't have been a war in the first place. You can deny his stupid, ignorant statement about the IRA. The british were negotiating with constitutional nationalists througout the conflict. The IRA didn't want to negotiate an internal settlement. It was they who were forced to the negotiating table by the security forces. It was only when they IRA realised they couldn't win that they agreed to end their campaign and talk.

The Provos sued for peace because the amount of touts Special Branch and the security Forces had on thier books , the fuckin provos couldnt so much as fart with us knowing! The Provo scum went to the then John Major goverment via MI6 and asked for talks because they were getting battered.

@spursloyal71 Innocent people are always going to die in wars. That is just the way it is. Either way, you can't deny McDonnell's point. The IRA did bring the British government to the table and that lead to the relative calm in Northern Ireland seen in the last decade or so. If they hadn't, the government would not have come to the table and more innocent civilians would be dying today.

Do you still think the IRA are brave freedom fighters!? perhapes you would like to explain those views to the victems of there violence, after all there are around 3.400 to chose from.! You could start in the northwest in warrington and speak to the famly of Jonathan Ball (remember him?) who was slaughtered in cold blood for the offence of buying his mum a mother day card !
