This is one of the 2 tvs I found in the trash with horizontal white lines going through the screen. I looked this problem up online an found out that it is a common problem with the both tvs that I found. The problem is that the capacitors go bad because they are right next to a heat sink and they get to hot and go bad. All this tv really needs is a 160v 22uf capacitor and that should fix the problem. Only problem I am having is locating the bad capacitor but as you can see in the video I think I found the capacitor but I'm not completely sure. The tv is a NEC CT-2501A(R). If anyone can find a picture or something so I can find locate the capacitor a little better that would help a lot. Thanks for watching please comment, rate, and subscribe!

  • Trust me I have had many trash picked tv's, if its on the fritz, chuck it- get something cooler. I saw two old consoles in the trash by us- this past week. Dont bother trying to fix these old things unless there vintage, special, or cool- its really not worth the hassle!- LOL! It is cool that one is a Stereo model with a built in clock!

  • @VICNASTY1989 Yeah i already threw it out.. but i did save the speakers from it to use for future projects.

  • NEC is great tv...too bad you tossed it. Next you'll buy an LCD and it will break in one year and then you'll be crying. I know what I'm talking about ..used to manage a tv repair shop.

  • I picked up a Toshbia and connected my convertor box and get all the channels...it has an awesome picture, almost as good as an LCD. This set could have been fixed for a few dollars, parts from Radio Shack

  • I have similar NEC TV mine 59cm PAL and has no speakers just speaker inputs and says made in Australia. I picked up 2 SONY 51cm 90-96 era from hard rubbish and both work perfectly people upgrading to flat screens

  • old fashoned crap! i love vintage old fashoned crap lol

  • i had a 1985 nec 20 inch CT-2020A with the glass over the front and i swear it might have had the best picture i have ever seen in my life

i got it for like 5 bucks when i was like 6 and i cried when it quit working the colors were amazing i think they used some of the same stuff they used in there arcade cabinets ?

  • I came across a very similar looking TV. My cousin moved into a house and found that the previous owner had left the TV there. Turned it on and it turns out the tube was too bright. Other than that it was fine. I don't know what he did with it though

Nice, they used to put high quality speakers in these things, there worth keeping. Like "SeberHusky" said, you should also save the yoke coil (the copper coil on the back of the tube), you can take them to scrap yards and they'll pay big bucks for the copper!

  • Trust me, I've picked a lot of TV sets out of the trash too. Only had to throw 3 of them back, out of the 12 I had picked up. Pretty good odds!

  • Don't bother fixing these...not worth it.

Just harvest the copper spool, and ditch the rest.
