Kate and Anna McGarrigle perform "Il était un petit navire" as the credits roll to end an episode of the CBC's "Gzowski in Converation" that originally aired on June 21, 1999. Accompanying them are Anna's daughter Lily Lanken, Joel Zifkin (violin), and Michel Pépin (guitar).

The brief introduction that precedes the song features interviewer Peter Gzowski along with Kate, Anna, Lily, and Kate's children Rufus and Martha Wainwright.

  • This ghoulish children's song was probably inspired by the shipwreck of the French naval frigate la Meduse off the Senegal coast in 1816, and the terrible ordeal of the few survivors.
