You can find a few completed Thunder Mustangs around for sale on various websites and they usually list around 600,000 to 750,000 There are few kits for sale, now and then, and they usually go for around 250,000 or so and should include everything but paint, upholstery and avionics. The Thunder is no longer in production but there is some hope that new kits will be available again soon. Check the Thunder Mustang website for planes, kits and updates.
Wow!, as much as I hate to do it, the V-12 Thunder puts out a nicer sound than the Stewart S-51's V-8. The Stewart sounds pretty danged nice on the ground but airborne it sounds like a blood race car. Sigh.....
You're right about the V-12 sound as it's awesome. I also love the S-51 but I tell you it seems impossible to see one live. I've seen F.E.W.'s, Titan T-51's and plenty of Thunder Mustang's but never an S-51. Hope to one day, V-8 and all.
@mP51D There are probably about 5 flying right now in the U.S. There are at least another five that are just waiting on a newly designed Accessory Drive Unit to fly; 1 builder in CA, 2 in AZ, 1 in UT and 1 around the Great Lakes area. There's a builder's group that is still working on their projects. The rights to production are now in a new (3rd) owner's hands and last I heard he was looking for financial partners to resurrect the kit or to sell it to someone who would. Be at OSH 2011!
how costs the plane??? there are a company dedicated to build them???
