  • Hi Adrian, I had CML from age 12-14. I had a BMT from an unrelated donor. I struggled with GVH for the first 2 years.... in my lungs, intestines and skin. It was horrible! But Im happy to say that I am 13yrs post bmt and haven't had any problems with GVH since I was 2 years post bmt. I havent been on any meds in over 10yrs as well. So moving thru GVH and getting back to a normal life IS possible, I am proof :) I also have a 18mo old son that I was told I'd never conceive. :-)

  • Ive had chronic GVHD on and off since my transplant 7 years ago... in the gut and on my skin. a year ago I had kidney failure they are saying might be caused by the GVHD and am about to have a kidney transplant because of this, my prednisone dose is down to 10mg but being boosted. Make sure you exercise and keep your MUSCLES AND BONES STRONG while on those steroids... Or you will get Osteo problems... best of luck

  • Dear Adrian, I know exacly how you feel I had stage four gvhd and i was 12 years old when I got my transplant I had a relapse prior to my transplant i got leukemia when I was eight and again when i was 11 i went to childrens hospital of philadelphia for my transplant and i had the worst recorded case of gvhd of the skin they had seen in 20 years i but i am now 16 and it is if it is just a bad memory now

  • I'm 2 1/2 weeks away from starting my BMT. Totally terrified. I'm glad Adrian put his life up here for us to see, though. Rest well.

  • i have that my its controlable and should go away,

  • my daughter had a small bowel, liver pancreas transplant and she got GVHD too. so i know all about what you are going throuh, just when we think everything is all good and they go down on her steriods it starts acting up again and we are right back where we started.

  • I was diagnosed with leukemia in november 2008. but now my doctors treated it and its gone!

But i have another illness called philedelphia syndrome, which may bring my leukemia back, so i also have to get a bone marrow transplant. Im alittle nervous because i have to be away from my family (but my mom will come with me) for 3 months. Anyway good luck to ya!

  • sorry to hear that. God bless

  • My little sister Kara just died 2 months ago from level 4 graft vs host disease, after a 13 month battle with leukemia and GVH. Kara was 23, and I guess this comment is my way of remembering her.

Congrats on your survival and best of luck to you.

  • Adrian - don't give up, mate - I've been through all this 10 years ago, and eventually my GVHD got better and disappeared. The weight has gone, too! Just to let you know - it'll take you about 2-3 years to FULLY get back to normal - but you will! Good luck and thanks for great reports! Anna
