@dahby79 if you're still looking there's a chap on ebay from notts who sells 8 dvds of all the coe, ovett and cram races, i've bought two sets recently. very reasonably priced too.
Ovett was less comfortable in front than Coe, and definitely would have been faster with company for another 200m or so. Whether or not he'd have run 3:46 on that day with company, I'm not sure; perhaps with Scott at his best trying to draw Ovett's kick out of him. But he was definitely capable of 3:46 at his best, given economical pacing, a rabbit up to 1200m & competition. His 3:30.77 1500 record in windy conditions was worth 3:47.6 (x 1.08) & he wasn't at his best then.
@LPCLASSICAL@LPCLASSICAL The split times given were every 400m on the start line. The 2:50.62 was for 1200m, so his 3/4 split would have been 2:51.5 and his time at the bell (with 400 to go) would be c.2:51.8; meaning his last 400m was c.56.6 (56.9 last 1/4). The 2nd lap was a little slow, & both he & Coe suffered from uneconomical pacing (compared to more recent records) & the unwillingness or inability for someone to take them to 3 laps or slightly beyond.
Ovett ran the last 500M on his own here - and clocked about 58 for the last lap - do you think with some competition on his shoulder he could have shaved 2 secs of that last 40 and run 3.46?
The user 1981alan closed his account here,so we cann't watch his beautiful running videos for Steve Ovett anymore,i
Like the last 200m:) in 1977 world cup a lot and the same in 1978 european 1500m too,i am sorry i don't know where u could find them ,i wish one day 1981alan would come back again with his nice running videos,we miss ur Ovett's videos 1981alan:).
Anyone know what happened to the video from the 1977 World Cup 1500m ("one man's blazing speed") and also the 1978 European Championship 800m (the Olaf Beyer race)?
Both used to be on this site, but since it was revamped they've both disappeared.
Anyone have an alternative source? Would love to see them again.
A legend. Who else had the balls to wave off the final bend at the crowd..?? And not a tw@t like coe... And all on his own for the last 450m

As he leaves the back straight, the others are just entering it. That's a full 100m!
