"Stand Up" is a song about the emerging LGBT equal civil rights movement born from the passage of anti-gay ballot measures across the United States in November 2008. The song was used for a promotion video for Join the Impact's National DOMA Protest on January 10, 2009. The song will be available on iTunes and other e-stores by around February 21, 2009. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the National Center for Lesbian Rights, an organization who has been fighting the validity of Proposition 8 in California after it passed in November 2008.
LYRICS:
It's the morning after, I take a warm shower sit down and grab the paper
Can't believe that the proposition came out ahead as I read the headlines
Yesterday the big election I'm in pain my gut is knotted
Tears are running down my partner's face he can't believe what's happening
We just want to live our lives
It's unfair to compromise
I don't understand the lies
I won't hide in this disguise
We all deserve equality
And we are all the same inside
We will not take this anymore
We've got to stand up
It's the weekend after I grab a warm coffee as I lounge on the sidewalk
People watching I catch a wedding ring on the finger as they're walking by
It's so beautiful I think that everyone is beautiful and
Why would someone say that we are ugly when our love is beautiful
We just want to live our lives
It's unfair to compromise
I don't understand the lies
I won't hide in this disguise
We all deserve equality
And we are all the same inside
We will not take this anymore
We've got to stand up
We just want to live our lives
It's unfair to compromise
I don't understand the lies
I won't hide in this disguise
We all deserve equality
And we are all the same inside
We will not take this anymore
We've got to stand up
We will stand together

I don't get it. You still can be Queer and no one will mess with you. What is the problem?
