Testing a high-voltage power supply made with a monitor flyback using an electrometer. The displacement of the balls indicates about 25 kV.

  • @hootsmeister As there is no scale to be read, yes. But I know approximately to what voltage corresponds a certain separation between the balls and the tube, so I can use it to take approximate measurements.

  • you should be able to measure the approximate voltage if you put a protractor on there to measure the angle of repulsion, and then calibrate the weights to be more precise. just something to think about lol.

  • We don't tend to use electrometers much in HV but sometimes they are the only thing to sense HV that will not remove charge or provide too many points for corona leakage. And they are cheap.
