There was no such thing as "South Ossetia" 80 years ago. This is ancient Georgian land called Tskhinvali. Ossetians moved there during Mongol invasions of Russia, and Georgian Kings allowed them to live there.

What about ethnic cleansing of Georgians from Abkhazeti and Tskhinvali in 1991-1993?

Russians sure did a good job of removing Georgians from their own land.
