Hina Spani, Ma dall'arido, Verdi Ballo

I am highlighting this audio of the great and almost forgotten Argentine soprano, Hina Spani. As there are so few positing of hers on Youtube, I hope all listeners who stop by my channel will listen to her rendition of Verdi's aria, stunningly sung with style, power and elegance.

I vividly recall hearing that voice the first time in a little 78 rpm record shop on Fairfax Ave. in L.A. in the late 1940's. The most beautiful soprano sound I have ever heard - granted we all respond differently. I understand she stood at the back of the orchestra during the recording. At one point you can hear her voice resound to the hall's acoustic. She sang at Puccini's Memorial Service. Sang Lieder!

One of my all-time favorites, Hina Spani is without doubt one of THE greatest. Why she is not better known is a mystery. The Pearl CD mentions that while she was eager to record, the studios had a difficult time warming to her voice. In any event, this is a very clean transfer of a very good performance. This marvellous singer, whom I heard only a few months on this page, has certainly changed my way of thinking about some of the "greats". I wonder how many other unknown singers are out there melting hearts.

Spani's singing is amazing: a beautiful and rich tone, perfect legato, adept phrasing, dynamic range, technical accuracy, emotional intensity, and stylistic exactness. A great singer, known in Argentina especially, but not internationally. Thank you for sharing this gem!
