Abilene High put on a brand new musical in May, written by an Abilene High alumni and Nashville singer, songwriter, and producer, Jerry Taylor.

This song is called "Yuppies" and takes place in the second act. It's set in the 80s.

Lyrics:

Boys and Girls: "We said 'goodbye' to the Seventies, and hello to Reaganomics and the eighties. We liberals became conservatives and started living with the new technology. IBM introduced the PC, vinyl records were replaced with a small CD. Monopoly gave way to video games when Pac-Man and Donkey Kong became the rage!"

Chorus:

Boys and Girls: "We're the educated, upward mobile, overspending, thirty-something yuppies. Our kids go to private schools, some smoke dope to come down from the cocaine they use."

Guys: "Our kids take ballet, karate, piano, and dance so when they grow up they'll have a good chance--"
Boys and Girls: "To be an educated, upward mobile, overspending, thirty-something yuppie!"

Girls: "Now we're livin' in an era of change, or what some would call 'The Information Age'. Trickle down economics seem to work okay if your first name's 'Bill' and your last name's 'Gates'."

Guys: "Dallas and Dynasty, J.R. and Alexis--(spoken) it's hard to keep up with who whose ex is!"

Guys and Girls: "Music videos on MTV and Urban Cowboy dancing like they do at Gillie's!"

Chorus: "We're the educated, upward mobile, overspending, thirty-something yuppies. Our kids go to private schools, some smoke dope to come down from the cocaine they use."

Guys and Girls: "Our kids take ballet, karate, piano, and dance so when they grow up they'll have a good chance to be an educated, upward mobile, overspending, thirty-something yuppie! We're all educated, upward mobile, overspending, thirty-something yuppies!"
