The Chevrolet Volt and Nissan Leaf may have stolen the show for electric vehicles in 2010, but Ford is hoping to make big waves in 2011 with its first EV passenger car, the Focus Electric. The zero-emissions Focus hatchback makes its official debut at this year's Consumer Electronics Show and Ford says the car will officially launch at the end of 2011 here in North America, with European customers expected to take delivery sometime before 2013.
Visually, the Focus Electric has an improved aerodynamics package to improve drag, incorporating a new front fascia that looks like something right out of the Aston Martin school of design. (Too bad this isn't the Cygnet, huh?) The only other major design changes are the addition of a charging port with an LED ring to the left of the driver's door and a new set of 15-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in low-rolling resistance tires. And speaking of LEDs, while the gasoline-powered Focus' LED eyebrow above the headlamp is only available in Europe, Ford tells us that the North American-spec Focus Electric will wear this bit of accent lighting when it hits production.

How do you charge the car if your wife or kid hits the fender on a wall or minor fender bender since the plug hole is placed outside just future insight since most people who drive are not perfect drivers and stuff happens.

@Jimbogf That will be great when that kind of range hits mainstream production. Thanks for the info.

I love how you can't skip past adds anymore. Except the add for this video was a Jeep add and it got pwned by being skipped. Thank you Ford! and sick rides

@RipTheSystem33 Did you say 300 mile range? Look up the Tesla Model S, production starts in mid-2012. :-)

The Volt isn't even an "electric car". It only gets about 45 miles on electric (tops), and then switches to gas. Yes, that means it gets better range, but you may as well buy a Prius for long range driving.
Chevy really screwed up... again. Nissan and Ford will be taking over, and Ford will have 4 other electric models unveiled next year. Not to mention, the battery technology will only get better in the next few years, and I wouldn't be surprised to see electric cars with 300 mile range soon.

Leaf and Volt may have stolen the show for now but I trust ford not the others.
