@burtoe i have a 06 wrx and it does the exact same thing. it only started 2 weeks ago and it ONLY does it under deceleration from about 3000 rpms to 2500 rpms then it goes away. i am wondering if it has something to do with the transmission or if it is just the exhaust rattling???

Did you ever find out what was wrong? My 02 bug eye is making the same noise :/

sounds like trans whine....but axles are more likely check your trans fluid and the cv boots

Sounds like your axles. I would check the front CV boots, maybe it ripped open which overtime can ruin your axles if not fixed because there's no grease in the bearings.

my 03 wrx does the same noise but only when i let off the gas, cant find out the problem????
