Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe has emphasised that stern action will be initiated if Channel 4 is not prepared to report the truth. Speaking during an adjournment debate in Parliament on the Channel 4 incident, the Minister underscored that action has already been taken to appraise the UN Secretary General and officials at international level about this video footage proved doctored.
The Minister observed that the tape containing the serious allegations had been handed over by the JDS Organisation to Channel Four. When a tape consists of such serious allegations it is the responsibility to find out who has provided it. The Government is concerned over the image of this country and the Army in the international arena. It has informed Channel 4 either to scientifically prove the facts presented by the Government are incorrect or to accept it and make an apology. If it fails to resort to either of them, the Government is prepared to take appropriate action. He added that Media Organisations such as the CNN , BBC and Al Jazeera should be more careful and work with responsibility.
