Thanks for this nice clean transfer.

It was, of course, the only 12" Matrix Caruso cut in Europe, and is usually dated September or October 1903. It is let down a bit by the crooned jump from e flat to b natural at 3'05" - sad, because he takes the earlier b natural [2'39"] so perfectly.

Both Canon Drummond, and the notes to HLM 7030 [which depend on then recent research by Jerrold Northrop Moore], give 1903. This was apparently accepted by both Bryan Crimp and Keith Hardwick at EMI.

It would be good to know if that date has subsequently been overturned, or whether EMI 7 61046 2 contains a misprint.

[Drummond was, incidentally, wrong about the dates of the Zonophones, which he placed before the first G&Ts]

Anyway, these are relatively unimportant details, the important thing is knowing that the recording was made in the early 1900s, and was registered in Italy. The rest will only interest historians who picky usually do not listen to music but trying to correct details Friendly greetings

Profound apologies: it seems the record was indeed made on 8 April 1904, apparently on the same day as 'Mattinata'.
