@KadrickNinness Oh thank you bro.. You're great!

Another excellent audio mix is THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM.
Check out the scene where the monkey king is challenged to fight in the palace.
Terrific surround distribution.

As a fellow audio-lover, happy listening :-) Both DTS and TrueHD are leaps ahead in dynamics and clarity.
I could suggest some films notable for the grade of their audio and visual mix sometime.
One exceptional sounding (very) high-res 7.1 film is THE GOLDEN COMPASS.
Go for the Tim Burton animations, too. NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, etc.

@KadrickNinness Yes figured it out. I have separate HDMI input and output on my receiver its a new JBL's receiver, it uses something called faroudja I guess its a processor. I didnt notice that before I am new to all this. Thanks... Now I can output audio and video through HDMI cable and the audio format is now DTS HD and Dolby TrueHD in some movies. Thanks again. And video in 1080p.

Not only is Optical limited to 5.1. It's limited to Dolby Digital resolution. Your receiver should have an input and an output for HDMI unless it's an old receiver that only has separated analogue inputs, aside from Optical. Your message is unclear but you sound like you're saying you have HDMI for video only? You can run the HDMI video INTO the receiver, and OUT again into the TV. Ensuring the receiver and TV are set to appropriate sources.

I need help I have a 7.1 receiver and a PS3... For video i've use HDMI cable to output full hd 1080p and for audio 7.1 what do I do?? As optical cable does only 5.1 what do I have to do to output audio in 7.1? P.S. I have few 7.1 movies in blu-ray.

DTS is suppose to be better than Dolby Digital ? When I play my ps3 games like RAGE or Uncharted they support DTS sound , but for some reason when I switch it yo DD it packs a bigger punch than DTS making DD better.
I first saw this when I saw Jurassic Park -which makes sense since it was the first movie presented in DTS!

My copy of "American Beauty" I purchased about 7 years ago has it. When you select 'DTS' under Audio options it plays. I only assumed there MUST be others! However, possible it's just too old now, and thus hard to find.
