Ein Talent passiert den BÜ "Weinbergstraße" in Bad-Neuenahr-Ahrweiler von Remagen kommend weiter nach Dernau und Ahrbrück.
----
A DB 643 Talent of the Ahrtalbahn is crossing a street in Ahrweiler. You can see the old crossing lights, which are flashing. Because of the flashing it isn't allowed to place such lights at crossings in Germany anymore.
So, the DB 643 is coming from Remagen to Ahrbrück in Rheinland-Pfalz. The gate (or barrier) is going only half over the street. The gates were the last invention into this railroad crossing.

  • Your description is confusing: it's DB 643, not BR 643 (I know what you mean, though).

  • @gibb1991 So basically, the crossing has been secured before the train even have clearance signal to enter the crossing. Exceptions of this rule apply only to "Feld-Wald-Wiesenbahnen" (in the middle of nowhere, a few trains over a day, or lets say: very unimportant tracks) where we have pretty much the same system you have in the US. Without the honking as well though.. Honking the horn is used if the crossing malfunctions and has to be secured manually, or if crossing has no lights and barrier.

  • @gibb1991 All that is necessary in the US, because the train triggers the crossing lights on approach. In Germany, that practice is not allowed on mainlines. The dispatcher has to set the "Fahrstraße" manually. If a railroad crossing is somewhere located between the joints he connected on his control panel, the crossing turn red, gates close. AFTER that action is reported back successfully to the dispatcher, the signals for the train will turn green. Thats why we dont need horn, bells and etc.

  • I visited Europe last year and while staying in Germany I noticed that the crossings didn't make noise when a passenger train approached the station. A light simply turned red and the gates went silently down. In the US, we have bells on our crossings and locomotives, as well as barriers, and red flashing lights on the crossing and white flashing lights on the front of the train. As well as the train signaling with two long blasts, one short, and one long of the horn.

    Welcome to Germany :P Politicans and other "big bosses" claim new gates, new bells etc. in the newspaper after an accident, but if the police states that the driver is guilty you`ll never read about this case anywhere :\

  • @VAHRoyal "Bahn" is train -eisenbahn and "drivers" is automobile drivers?

    Why /how could they consider the railroad guilty if the driver disobeys the warning signals? They know a massive train cannot stop quickly enough.
