IN S. Korea, most taekwondo students take a test held by the taekwondo authorities in each province. At these testings, the test usually lasts no longer than 5 minutes. Students must perform only 2 poomse (their required poomse, and 1 at the discretion of the examiner. They are asked to perform 6 one step self-defense techniques, and about 30 seconds of no-contact sparring. It's no wonder with testing standards like these, there are so many black belts running around Korea. In this video, 2 of my own students (far right, front and back aged 6 and 7) took the test, along with all the other thousands of students that day.

  • How can kids who look no older than 6 be going for 4th dan? It takes 3 years to get from 2nd to 3rd alone. Another 4 from 3rd to 4th minimum.

  • This was not a 4th Dan test. They were testing for 1st Poom, not 4th Dan. As mentioned in the above response, all children testing for levels "under" 4 Dan/4 Poom can expect this short test.

  • Think that brill even though its not all been covered on the vid whats covered is great.

  • Whats on the video was the "entire" test that students must take under 4th dan. As you can see from the video, it was not even 4 minute test. Older higher ranking students may do an extra 30 seconds of sparring, but on average, under 4th Dan, the test will last no more than 5 minutes, and this done by the Kukkiwon provincial authorities over each province in Korea.

  • This is why Tae kwon Do is a joke too the rest of the Martial Atrs Styles

  • this is a shamefull way of earning quick money. here in western world we are much more strict then this.

  • Actually they won't. By Kukkiwon standard Koryo is required for 2nd Dan or Poom.

But I too am finding this 5 minute tests a bit odd. On my exam for 1st Dan my exam lasted about half hour, and my teacher said that that too is too short for black belt exam.

  • they r taking test to be 1st dan

  • This is not the 4th Dan. This kids look like their performing Taeguk 8. Which means they will proceed to Poomsae Koryo, Dan 1.

  • So this is a Black Belt Grading is it?

  • It is the same as in Thailand. So there are a lot of black belt in Thailand too. However the standard of a normal TKD and athlete TKD is obviously different.A Green Belt Athlete can easily take on a normal Black Belt.

  • magic ? I do not understand this also , Took me 10 years to get 1 dan Karate Kyokushinkai , and 18 months to get 1 dan Tae Kwon Do , hm , something is wrong . maybe Tae Kwon Do does not need so much expirience ?
