Quote: "I knew virtually nothing about conventional music education, and didn't know how to teach singing. Above all, I knew nothing of what children's music was supposed to be. But the kids had a grasp of what they liked: emotion, drama, and making music as a group. Whether the results were good, bad, in tune or out was no big deal -- they had élan. This was not the way music was traditionally taught. But then I never liked conventional 'children's music,' which is condescending and ignores the reality of children's lives, which can be dark and scary. These children hated 'cute.' They cherished songs that evoked loneliness and sadness." - Hans Fenger, Langley music supervisor/arranger

  • A perfect example of how a teacher and touch the lives of their students in a very positive way. Teachers....stay motivated and excited. Your students will feed off of that.

  • Unfortunately this presentation does not cover the very powerful solo of one 9 year old covering Desperado. But that is not to say this is not a great presentation!

  • Great documentary until that damn Dido song comes on. Dido? How about Desperado? I am sure VH1 was given money for placing the Dido song. Uck.

  • @MrFreako2010 It's amazing isn't it.

  • Good doc, but not nearly enough of the music they recorded. Anyone who listens to the album and isn't brought to the brink of tears HAS NO SOUL! It's the reason music was invented.
