Let me explain something: during Reconstruction and the Cold War, the southern states in the USA were forced to pick up right-wing ideology. Unfortunately, during the Cold War, the southern states obsorbed too much right-wing ideology, and a number of right-wing southerners (also a number of northerners) became neo-Nazis. As for the Democrats, during WW2, some Democrats became too much obsessed with ending the Third Reich and became Communists. It is as simple as that.
