This is so touching. I spent my whole life trying to get my hair to be "pretty, perfect, and smooth" like a white girl. And about 75% of that time being depressed when it was limp, dead, lifeless, dull and ugly, No more! Cut off all the heat and relaxer damaged ends, rocking a TWA and going all natural.

@BlasphemousContessa That's good for you. However, someone could just as easily decide they want a press and curl or relzer and they maintain it well and it be healthy. If your hair was limp and dead it's because maybe you had a more coarse grade of hair and alot was being overdone to make it appear straight. Hence natural worked better for you. However people with softer hair may not need as much maintance. In addition the message in India's songs didn't idolize that it was BE HAPPY W/U.

who you are find yourself and no matter what people think you are or should be be true to yourself listen to the soul within and honor that. So that you can be free and happy and never feel you have anything to prove. I think for someone that thinks they look better or feels better with a press and curl to half to walk around with a curl or nappy bush isn't making yourself feel happy. However if you think curly looks better on you that obviously would be the choice for you!

however don't comment when you see the next African American who has a different grade of hair than yours with blond highlights or even if they have your hair texture and try to inforce upon them the fact that because they have ancestors from African they should exclude every other naitonality of their genetic makeup to look like a person from Africa a place of which they have never even been. African Americans with kinker hair tend to want to group every African American with them and think they have the same hair type. Not all of us have the same hair. So it's a little egotistical for AFrican Americans to try and prove some type of pro-black point and insist everyone go natural or if an African American has striaght hair or color in their hair they wanna be white. It makes you sound jealous. If you wanna be natural that's great if your hair is nappy that's great too. Do you!

I love this song. However by reading the comments. I think you all missed the point. The ones saying ooh African Americans wearing natural hair blah blah blah. First of all African American is just that African American a person who's ancestor were brought from African 100's of years ago and who's blood has been diluted with lots of Caucasian blood. Some very few have been diluted also with Native American. That being said some African Americans have straight hair, and don't have kinks!

@BlasphemousContessa I think this song depicts a lot of black girls especially the ones back in the 70s-90s. i grew up being laughed at in school because my hair was short and nappy. I started wearing wigs and weaves. last year i started dreads. I am so happy with them. I feel like a nubian queen. Now girls feel like if they arent half naked they won't get any attention. they don't realize its negative attention
