  • Fab - thanks for putting it up.

  • @davegiraffe

    glad you like it..! :)

  • I still wonder if this is the original version, as this tune is also popular in Greece and it could be an old Greece folk song??

  • As far as i know, Charles Ganimian, is armenian.

On the back cover of his record he is mentioned as the author of this song between other songs that he covered (he did also a cover version of Over The Rainbow that is also pretty good..) Due to that i´m pretty sure that this song isn´t an old Greece folk song.. but it´s a great song, indeed..! :)

  • Can't believe I've found this, I've been looking for it for 30 odd years - since I broke the original! Great fun this. Thanks tourist xxxx

  • You are very welcome..! :)

  • Fantastic! I lost my 45 rpm record years ago. Can you post the flip side, Halvah?

  • oh! Armenian Jazz Sextet not on YT at all, I'll have to post it myself! Too good to not be better known so GO SEE MY CHANNEL as I'll add it shortly...

  • having just got a Mint UK copy cheap on ebay (tee hee) listen to the B side, even more kooky if less R&R

Another great Armenian exotica record is Pretty Girl/Harem Dance by Armenian Jazz Sextet from 1957. The Jazz bit may put exotica dancer buyers off but no real Jazz. No doubt YouTube has it too

  • @lemonsqueezermunich i think you mean Kazantzidis (a famous greek folk singer of the 60s) version. But as you might know greek music at this time were influeced from eastern tunes. In fact many of the composers of the time were "stealing" unknown to the greek audience tunes from the east.

  • its so sad that we are suffering now because of our ancestors mistakes. with musicians like these, the anatolian music would be much spectacular and well-known around the globe. these people, the armenian artists are the real children of the anatolia aka asia minor. yet, they left that grounds after the tehcir law of ottomans.

and who are we? we are the regretful turkish people.

  • Yes..it was from the late 50's...the vocalist is Onnik Dinkjian, father of Ara Dinkjian, world renown oudist. The band was the Nor Ikes, Chick Ganimian on Oud, Steve Boghosian on Clarinet, Sudan Baronian on Clarinet and percussion, Eddie Malkasian on Sax and Aram Davidian playing dumbeg
