My basset hound isn't in shape. He was just waking up from a long sleep. :)

  • Put some food at the top. He'll practically fly up those stairs.

  • @rich88b I live in an upstairs apartment, I dont have a choice. My dog loved stairs as a puppy too, he still plays on em and loves to run up and down them. Letting a basset go up and down stairs is not a bad thing, they may have joint problems but that comes later in life. There are medications and foods to help prevent those joint problems as well. Also, not all bassets have those problems either. Many times it results from overfeeding and letting the dog get far overweight...

  • as does mine.

  • Weird. My basset hound could bolt up and down stairs.

  • Basset Hounds should never be allowed to go up and down the stairs because there is far too much weight on those little legs and they'll have joint problems, limping etc so please don't let your Basset go up and down stairs!!!!

  • This is too funny. I wish I could have seen the dogs face when it woke up. My basset usually has a really stupid expression when he wakes up. Most of the time half his lips are caught in his teeth and he squints in the light. This one cant get up the stairs it's so sleepy. So cute. I love these dogs. I'd love to get another one.

  • its not goood for bassets to walk up stairs

  • My dogs had no problem with steps, bernard climbed steps at just six weeks and jumped into the puppy food bag.

Pete wasn't quite as adventurous but took the celler steps two at a time....

Of course this was many moons ago, mybe the poor souls are overbred?

The only concern I can remember was keeping those ears flushed out and aspirin in old age for their arthritis...

Anyway, cute dog give em a hug he looks not quite certain of those stairs!

  • stairs are bad for young bassets. they are injury prone because of their awkward body types. especially on stairs. this is because their bones are still developing and growing.

  • You shouldn't let your dog go upstairs after a long sleep.
