Vita di un pensionato dello Stato che ha servito per quaranta anni curvando la schiena per il miraggio di un crepuscolo tranquillo. Non ha familiari né amici: oltre a un povero assegno mensile, solo un cane bastardo e una servetta a ore. Uno dei vertici del cinema neorealista. Sottovalutato quando uscì, il film fu oggetto di polemiche sia da destra (famoso lintervento dellon. Giulio Andreotti, che accusò De Sica di eccessivo pessimismo e di non ricordare che lItalia era anche patria «di don Bosco, del Forlanini e di una progredita legislazione sociale), sia da sinistra, per la mitologia allora irrinunciabile del personaggio positivo, che il film smentiva, non prestandosi a essere semplicisticamente definito un appello al la solidarietà umana. Umberto D. divise con La terra trema il primato del linsuccesso commerciale. In realtà, esso fu un capolavoro, ancor più cinematografico del ministero della Marina.

"The Other Side" is a single released on Paul van Dyk's second DJ mix album The Politics of Dancing 2. Paul van Dyk wrote "The Other Side" in retort to the devastating tsunami which hit South East Asia on the 26th of December, 2004. Van Dyk believes it is important to recognise that many thousands of people were affected by death and the lost of loved ones. "The Other Side" portrays the feeling of still being with a person, that in ones thoughts, have died and it expresses the faith and aspiration of seeing that person again on "The Other Side". This single also includes remixes by Deep Dish, Mark Spoon and Martin Roth. It features Wayne Jackson on vocals, formerly of the band the Dostoyevskys, and was also featured on Dance Dance Revolution SuperNOVA's home version songlist.
