I'm not one to make videos about my gear but these drums sound so great I had to put something out there. The drums you see in this video are Yamaha's new PHX line. The shells are pretty thick at 11 ply and use a hybrid combination of woods. Jatoba, Kapur and Maple. The sizes are as follows:

22" x 16" Bass Drum
16" x 15" Floor Tom
14" x 13" Floor Tom
12" x 8" Rack Tom
10" x 7" Rack Tom
14" x 4" Maple Custom Absolute Nouveau Snare

I have Remo Suede Emperors on the batter sides and Remo Clear Ambassadors on the resonant sides of each drum. Also a Remo Renaissance Powerstroke 3 on the Bass Drum batter side.

All drums are finished in Matte Black with Chrome Hardware.

When I first heard about these drums I wasn't 100% sure that Yamaha wasn't just hyping up a new product. After I finally got my hand on a set of them, I was totally convinced. These drums far exceed any other drum I've ever played in terms of overall great sound at any dynamic level. The lows are insane! Not to mention the clean and articulate highs. They have a very open sound which they can get away with because they sound so great. It's really how a drumset is supposed to sound. The drums resonate very well together as an entire kit. No ringing toms every time you play the bass or snare drum. Thanks Yamaha for making my job a whole lot easier and an all around great playing experience! These drums rock!

I also want to send out a special thanks to James Wyrick at Norman Music Center in Norman, OK. James hooked me up with this absolutely sweet drumset and has been nothing but knowledgeable and helpful every step of the way. I even got a friendship out of it! To reach James for a screamin' deal or to learn more about Yamaha PHX drums call him at:

Thanks again James!

The track I play along to in the video is:

Raul Midón - "State Of Mind"

Raul is an incredible, blind singer and guitar player who I got hip to not to long ago. It is hard to find any tracks without drums but this one works well. Rauls time is great and he's a blast to play along with. Lots of room to mess around! I know I get a little busy........but it's a drum video for cryin' out loud!

EDIT BY THE OWNER OF THIS VIDEO:

Since I uploaded this I have had a chance to watch and listen to it and I must say the sound quality is not great when streaming this video. Sorry about that. The audio files are the highest quality AAC I could make yet when online it sounds like a crappy mp3. Hope it can still give you some idea of what they sound like.

  • great sound!!!!!!

do you think i can tune my yamaha stage custom to sound like that???????

  • Thanks! Ha! Not sure but I bet with a good head selection a proper tuning you could make 'em really sing. All Yamaha's are built very well and usually can get the job done!

  • Great playing, Great Drums, great snare, fantastic man.

  • Thanks man! Liked your vids too. I'm gonna have to steal your old heads upside down on top of your kit idea! Cool sounds!

  • The drums sound real good, but not any better than a good kit by Pearl, DW, Premier, and so on. There's a lot anyone can do to make an average kit sound good - heads, tuning, suspension, not being a suck drummer etc. But still, I'm not knocking your set. sounds great. congrats.

  • Thanks. I hear you. Most high-end kits are all made in a very quality way and sound great. For me, I haven't ever owned a kit that really nails it on all levels though. Sound, stick feel, consistent sound throughout the kit, stays in tune, solid hardware, great mounts, solid feel (no moving on me), nice finish, clean studio sound (no rattleing, had a DW that did that), tuneable to any situation and never has "thin" sounding highs (had a Pearl like that) nor weak lows. Best kit I have ever owned!

  • Very, very nice!

  • Keep doing what you're doing man. Pay no attention to these other ppl who say you have to many fills. You're not on a stage right now and Im not saying not to practice different settings like stage feel, stadium or jazz hall type feel. You're playing it how you feel it. Some ppl just dont know any better when it comes to being a musician and showing showmanship. Its not like you were showing off which I highly doubt man. We'd be able to tell if you were then they would be able to say that.

  • NIce drums. Have you ever tried putting the Emps on the batter side and the single ply on the res side?

  • Wow, really great sounding drums and great playing. I love the drums you put to this song too. Raul Midon is ridiculously talented, but his music sounds so much fuller with percussion. Great job.

  • Hey! Nice kit! What ride cymbal are you using in this video?

  • @misli323 In your opinion.

  • you play as if you're trying to impress

  • I have yamaha maple custom and it"s sound better

  • your snare really matches the song at like 1:10

  • @Muscovee lets just say your wrong

  • @mryamaha31 Obviously not.
