After the initial shock of Ernsts 'departure'
his friends and the family worked together very hard
and organized an intimate but public memorial event, to be held after the funeral:
An exhibition of his best work with
food, drink and music where friends could gather and share memories, magic and loss, (to quote the big Lou, one of Ernst's heroes)
in one of Ernsts favorite hang outs and the 'stage' for many of his works: Societeit De Burcht in Leiden

People from all over the country lifted works they once had bought from their walls and kindly brought them over
to be put on exhibit for a day
Some Dons even sent their chauffeur with a piece...

In fact it turned out to be two days, because all through the night and well into the next afternoon people still came in numbers while friends held vigil and played music until the last work was collected

It was so inspiring you could almost forget for a second that the main inspirator had not just disappeared to the bar around the corner like he used to.

His presence still filled the room
And that's another GOOD memory to keep

This little clip shows some images of the meeting.
Very private and intimate moments were shared by family and friends with the public in the room
One of the speakers was Pieter Sitse, guitarist in Ernsts last band Lt. Ernesto's Bad Habits, speaking on behalf of the group of friends who organized the meeting, with a personal touch for the family and friends , and some less private stories concentrating on the more 'public' Ernst, his work and the unique ways he charmed everybody , a few of wich parts we present here in this film to you
