My criticism, if you care to reread and fairly try to comprehend my previous post, was aimed not at the singer at all but at the snide posters who had in fact criticised her.

Those who can do. Those who cannot may become teachers - or, somewhat less admirably descend to negative and perhaps even envy driven criticism.

Rosa Ponselle, whatever else might be said of her, was definitely a doer, a remarkable and great artist who also generously continued to encourage others - singers and listeners alike - to take joy in singing.

Ugh! Age 57 or 75 or 20, it doesn't matter. Sorry, but Ponselle had no understanding whatsoever of this Lied, let alone German Lied in general. She and her pianist infused as much drama here as watching paint peel. Why so crawling slow? One can even -see- the bar lines throughout the performance. Comes to show that true art-making is far far more than having a pretty voice, pretty colors and so on and so forth.
