  • Why would you take the time out to put a message on a video which just said boring? This is a great video of Sweden's best ever driver, there should be more videos on Youtube of drivers who have been gone a long time.

  • Ronnie Peterson. Colin Chapman. Gods of the Motorsport heavens.

  • Ronnie Peterson was a shy man but on the racing track he was one of the most spectacular F1 drivers the world have seen to date.

  • @McLarenMercedes I believe Ronnie has signed for Mclaren for 79 before Monza.

  • @NathanF11989

He was ordered by Chapman NOT to race Andretti if the two held and easy 1-2 in the races. Which is why he easily followed Andretti but never seriously tried to overtake him.

To his friends Peterson admitted this annoyed him, but he honoured his agreement.

Apparently an American winning in a Lotus-"Ford" meant more money to the team. So for 1979 Chapman promised equal treatment. Word is Peterson wanted to sign for McLaren in 1979 or Brabham. We will never know.

  • @ysgol3 I understand where your coming from but to be fair to Ronnie, race control did not stop the race so he was simply racing. He was not the first or only driver who failed to realise the seriousness of the situation and pass the stricken Williamson and heroic Purley. Its tragic that David Purley and Ronnie Peterson like many others before qnd after have paid the ultimate price for the sake of motorsport.

  • Hands down he would have beaten him to the title..No doubt! He was the best! I loved him!

  • A big peace of my heart was ripped out when Ronnie died after his crash at Monza in '78..I was 14 & I've never got over that awful day..Affected me hugely! I miss him still..RIP Ronnie!

  • I'll always remember poor Ronnie for putting his foot down through the smoke and impeding rescuers when David Purley was trying to save Roger Williamson. yeah, what a saint.

  • Very interesting video - many thanks for sharing. Ronnie was such a magnificent driver who was taken from us far too soon. If he'd been given the chance to go head to head with Mario Andretti for the 1978 title, he would have given Mario a good run for his money.
