Simply electrifying.

London could sing Mozart, Wagner, Puccini and he did it great. Thanks for this post!

...la Tebaldi non era da guardare era da ascoltare, così come, a mio giudizio, la Callas non era da ascoltare ma da guardare...

No doubt there will never be a Mimi like La Tebaldi, and I agree with illfurter: "... n'était pas la meilleure Tosca". Her acting here is not good. I understand it was another time and another way of acting (even american movies stars acted like that - Ann Baxter for instance - forced). Tebaldi here has, as usually, the voice of an angel and a royal posture. I only disagree that any person would behave like that in such situation like Tosca's. The acting is dated. Just a John Doe's opinion

It was never done any better. London was my first Scarpia many years ago, and he was absolutely mesmerizing Thank you for posting this.
@LazarNewDeal To my take, Tebaldi's acting is believable - even when she rejects Scarpia's advances; there is an intense repulsion in her being; there is active thought going on constantly as she weaves her trap. Her intensity may not be that of Callas, but I don't feel that she is assuming a "royal posture". She does display (slightly) some of the "romantic" poses, but that was the style of the time. Nonetheless, to me, she is believable as Tosca; aside from her superb singing.
