Here's the test fr the 4 legged mechs in BTS (battletech simulator).

Using IK (inverse Kinematics) the animations should be able to fit to any 4 legged mech.

  • A walk animation has 1 leg on the ground at all times, (or two legs for a 4 legged beast).

In a run or trot animation there is a point where all the legs are off the ground at the same time.

Don't worry, this will look good at a range of speeds.

  • Thanks, I'm lucky with this design because it has so many segments in the legs, allows for a very smooth and lifelike animation.

I modeled it's movements on some lizards I used to have as a kid.

  • This reminds me of how a beetle or ant walks, and while it may look a little odd at first, it IS the most natural way for the Xanthos to move (considering the way it's put together and the number of joints in its legs).

  • cool mech

  • Is... that a Xanthos?

  • well, if derk goes to a 2 speed animation, that would be a pretty good trot, but for walk you'd have to move one leg at a time, or alternate, for stability, then bts would look better with quads.

  • Whoa, that was excellent. I wish MW4 had some 4-legged 'Mechs in it.

  • Wow, good job.

  • That's pretty goood. Looks almost organic.
