  • Hey ConsularRevan! Thanks for your comments.

Yes, I have experienced some of that animosity. It's not necessarily directly related to WWII, but it definitely exists. It's funny though because a lot of Japanese culture is tied to those of their neighbors [although they often won't admit it] .

To answer one of your other questions, there are a lot of things in Japan that are 'ahead of the times,' but there is also a lot that is not. Running out of avail. characters here... thanks again!

  • those concepts seem so inherently japanese but there are lots of other cultures where honne and tatemae are used, though not necessarily based on "country" but rather the group's socioeconomic status or gender. Like, it's probably more common for women to say one thing just to be polite and not make waves rather than tell someone how they really feel, so as to preserve the other person's feelings or to not offend them.

  • awesome videos guys its very informal and by the way....

  • very helpful

  • I noticed this behavior when I began watching japanese movies a while back. I immediately recognized it because this is how it is in the navajo culture also. Alot of true feelings are held back for the harmony of the family and community. I can totally identify with this.

  • So basically like having no backbone is what it sounds like.
