Mezclas (Mixed) -- Roger Bechirian
Productor (Producer) -- Nick Lowe
Escrito ( Written-By ) -- Elvis Costello

"There are some things you can't cover up with lipstick and powder
I thought I heard you mention my name, can't you talk any louder ?

"Don't come any closer, don't come any nearer
My vision of you can't get any clearer
Oh, i just want to hear girls talk
I got a loaded imagination being fired by girls talk"

"But I can't say the words you want to hear
I suppose you're going to have to play it by ear
Right here and now
Girls talk and they want to know how
Girls talk and they say it's not allowed
Girls talk, if they say that it's so
Don't you think that I know by now"

"That the word up on everyone's lips
Stick that you're dedicated
Though you may not be an old fashioned girl
You're still going to get dated
Was it really murder ?
Were you just pretending ?
Lately I have heard you are the living end"

"Girls talk and they wanna know about her
Girls talk, they wanna know if I care
Girls talk and they wanna know where
Girls talk girls talk"

.

  • Fwiw, 'prolific' doesn't mean good or great. It refers to quantity (a LOT), not quality. Elvis C was very prolific in his early years and in remains so. In the his case the songs were (mostly) good, better and frequently great. I bet he still writes a ton and would be releasing CDs of new material constantly - 70s-80s style- if he had an audience to support it. Paul McCartney remains prolific too, even if the audience for new Macca tunes has dwindled over the decades. imho, Btw, huge fan of both

  • You gotta hand it to Elvis, great songwriter, great lyrics. In fact Paul McCartney once said he thought Elvis Costello was one of our most prolific songwriters. I personally like the version done by Dave Edmunds but this version has to be held in great respect coming from the writer himself.

  • @Yorkmackem These strange changes are almost always key to Elvis' kick ass musical twists; Spike is loaded with them and it's probably my fav album. Kudos for your good ear BTW!

  • both versions are so, so great. I love them each more because of the other versions. gets better every year.

  • Strange bass progression in the bridge, goes to C# minor which makes it sound much different from the Dave Edmunds version, which is the one I'm used to. But its Elvis' song so who the fuck am I to complain ?!

  • It's great to hear both versions ( Edmunds & Elvis C.)

  • I'll be happy to disagree. I think this stripped-down version is as good (if not slightly better) than Edmunds', which I consider great anyway. I like having the best of both worlds.

  • Love both versions. I think Dave Edmunds gets the best out the very clever Costello lyrics

  • @redphonedeb i was gunna post the same thing til i saw ur post. ya know i love elvis costello but this versions just kinda ehh , ok, much prefer dave edmunds version. cant get it outta my head
