@Xezlec AS I said "thats another story".
-
@borledx By "thrown out of Palestine", I take it you mean out of the entire nation currently referred to as Israel? You want to evict 7 million people at once and create the biggest refugee crisis in the entire recorded history of the world? Who gets them? What about those who can't afford to leave? How do you tell who is Jewish? And what about those in the far-left Israeli parties (a substantial fraction of the population) who have always fought hard for Palestinians and their rights?
-
@Xezlec NO I think the Jews should be thrown out of palestine altogether buts thats another story. AS for support dropping thats Bullshit, the Northern Ireland Life & times survey obviously being your source. Sinn Fein have continously grown since the GFA & when catholics have enough of a majority, it will become a real issue again & only then will we know. An if after the inevitable referendum it does pass, unionists will have to accept it, leave or drown in their own blood.
-
@borledx We're going in circles, and it doesn't matter anyway because support for a unified Ireland has been dropping for years according to the polls in NI, even among Catholics. So it's never going to happen no matter what anyone wants.
-
@borledx OK, so using your example then, you're saying that you think if Israel and Palestine were unified under one country, and Jews somehow became a minority there, the problem would be solved and there would finally be peace, and the Jews would be treated just fine?
-
@Xezlec Your talking about accepting an apology, LOL. Do you honestly believe the unionist community will come out & say "ah were sorry about all that ethnic cleansing back in the day & stealing your land & all". Also "We're sorry about running an apartheid state in NI until the IRA showed us the error of our ways" I mean really what planet are you living on? As 4 "predjudice both ways", again I'll point you 2 the ROI where protestants are indistuinguishable from any1 else in society
-
@Xezlec U dont hav a clue of the mindset of either side. An apology from the unionists, LOL. As much as the Israeli believes all the biblical lands of Israel r theirs by God given right, the unionists in the North believe that they have that same divine right in Ireland. Reps on the other hand view their primary enemy as the British Govt. Unionists being a mere afterthought as the UVF/UFF have never posed a serious threat 2 the IRA, prefering to killing ordinary Catholics instead
-
@borledx I would fight the first generation of invaders, absolutely. But if we failed to fight them off, then 5 centuries later, after the invading culture had put down roots and become a part of the landscape, I think I would try to accept them and just settle for an apology and some kind of acknowledgment on their part that their ancestors had no right to do what they did. If there's discrimination in NI, that's awful and should be fixed. But surely there's prejudice both ways?
-
@borledx Granted I could be mistaken, but "they've brought nothing but blood, pain & misery...& we have to live with them" does not sound to me like a basis for fair and objective governance. To an outsider, it sounds like a country run by you would be intrinsically biased against them in every disagreement. That's what I was saying.
-
@Xezlec Also its not a matter of making Reps happy at Unionists expense, its a matter of right & wrong. Would you feel the same in 20 years if lets say the Pakistanis decide to draw a line around NE England(if they were to become a majority) & call it Pakistan?? And then to add insult to injury, discriminate on every level against the English people that are there, in effect making them 3rd class citizens in their own country. I think not.
