Dr. Harold Varmus, Director of the National Cancer Institute, talks about how revolutions in science research such as genomics, proteomics, bio informatics and nano technology are creating new opportunities not just in Cancer research, but across all fields of health science.

Harold Varmus is co-recipient of the 1989 Nobel Prize for discovery of the cellular origin of retroviral oncogenes. He has also been designated as one of the co-chairs of the Council of Advisors on Science and Technology in the Obama administration

Dr. Harold Varmus chaired the GEOFFREY BEENE CANCER RESEARCH CENTER at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Established in 2006, the Center is dedicated to making revolutionary discoveries about how cancer works at the cellular level and using them for new approaches to diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. $106 million has been donated by GEOFFREY BEENE to fund research projects, professorships, training stipends, and symposia.

The Rock Stars of Science is a Geoffrey Beene Gives BackĀ® initiative. It is focused on recognizing the brilliant and dedicated men and women leading research today who have made significant contributions to health research. We also want to inspire the next generation of Rock Stars of Science to take up the battle against diseases like cancer and Alzheimer's that impact so many. Join us in standing behind scientists and raising our voices and awareness around establishing medical research as a national priority to help achieve our mission of going from "Cause to Cure in our TIme".
