Watch out for PVC or ABS if you are playing with high concentrations of electrolyte.

  •  You never got high temps when running , did you ? I noticed pvc when heated pretty hot and then cool on my unit , it would srink the pvc, think it cured it the rest of the way, Been thinking of casting the end caps out of clear acrylic, the same as the tube I use, then it can be welded with Tap acrylic cement, also can cast the threads into design and possibly the connections.

  • @llewgnal No Gary, I never ever got even close to high temps running it. It was all in the mixing and filling. It would cool down quickly when running.

  • yer i would steer clear of the plastic's now as in the very long run it will do the same to any plastics you have on it, it will slowly eat away at it all, and i think cuzz your beasty is such a heavy duty monster and you have all that heat and electrolysis stuff going through it that you have discovered a design problem to be solved for future hho users, NO MORE PLASTIC.

  • @jeracojay I don't think we can avoid plastics in the build. We just need to avoid abusing them.

  • Thats gonna be a lot of work. But in a way its kinda exciting, to see how the media blasting has held, if there has been any kind of surface degradation. it will be really interesting because of the ulra high mixes, just to see how the ss has held, how the gaskets are doing. Shrug its sucks no matter what, but even the downside is something pretty neat, and unique, the magne patterns will be cool too.

  • @d3adp001 Yes D3, I really need to inspect the media blasted surface anyway. I have never had an issue with it in the past but this is a very different process than I have used in the past.

  • Larry this may sound 101. But I keep hearing you say tap water. Surely your not using tap water when distilled water only costs a buck a gallon. Another point is the black fittings are A. B. S. the white fitting are P. V. C.

  • I think your seeing using high KOH levels are destructive to your cell. Rethink and try another approach using high voltage low amps and very dilute potassium carbonate which is non corrosive in your distilled water.Your wattage will rise and also should see a rise in HHO output. I now have a Full wave bridge rated at 200KW and can run 220VAC or 3 phase AC through it. It came off a construction crane power supply board a friend salvaged from work. I believe it will handle all the power I need.

    At least you were able to determine what was causing the discoloration. I'm sure you'll post the plate conditions as soon as you tear it apart.

  • in high concentrations sodium hydroxide will even eat at glass. I dint envy the amount or work your goin to have to do . But I still wish I could do it . It would be a good time for me and I suspect it is for you too. Have fun dude

  • WOW!! I am really sorry to see you breakdown that huge cell. I too have learned to steer away from pvc. I was having problems with heat softening the plastic. I think it would be wise to use something like CPVC for the piping. HDPE seems to be a pretty resilient material for heat and chemicals.

    Too much caustic chemicals like koh or naoh is always going to be a bad thing no matter what your putting it in. I think the key is trying to find the sweet spot of low heat,amps, and less electrolyte.
